Troops destroy bandits’ hideout, recover arms in Taraba operation

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have dismantled a major bandits’ hideout and recovered arms during a clearance operation in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The successful raid, conducted under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, followed credible intelligence on the activities of criminal elements operating around the Unom, Yongogba, Tornyi, and Mbayongocommunities.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, the operation took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to eradicate banditry and restore peace across Taraba State.

During the mission, troops received real-time intelligence from Kofar Ahmadu village indicating that the bandits were sighted near TY Farm in Tati. Acting swiftly, the soldiers advanced through Sabon Gida Tati, where they engaged the criminals in a fierce firefight. After sustaining heavy resistance, the bandits fled into the surrounding forest.

Further exploitation of the area led to the discovery and destruction of a major camp at TY Farm, effectively denying the criminals a secure base of operations. The troops also recovered a Dane gun and other valuable items from the site.

The Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage, professionalism, and swift response. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining peace and security in Taraba Stateand urged residents to continue providing timely and reliable intelligence to support military operations.

The Nigerian Army further disclosed that additional clearance patrols are ongoing across identified flashpoints to completely dismantle bandit and terrorist networks in the region.
