President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja. The session, which commenced at approximately 2 p.m., began with a minute of silence in honor of two late former government officials.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) announced the passing of Mrs. Adenike Ebunoluwa Oyagbola, Nigeria’s first female minister, who served as Minister of National Planning from 1979 to 1983. She passed away on Friday, February 28, at the age of 93.
The council also paid tribute to elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information under the Murtala Mohammed administration in 1975. Clark, who previously served as Midwest Commissioner for Education and Finance from 1966 to 1975 and played a key role in establishing the University of Benin, passed away on Monday, February 17, at 97.
The ongoing meeting marks the fourth FEC session of 2025. Earlier in the week, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had confirmed plans for an additional council meeting.
