The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and promoted Uzuegbu Kanayo, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police.
Newly Appointed DIGs
The six officers elevated to Deputy Inspector General of Police are:
Sadiq Idiris Abubakar – Commandant, Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, and former CP, FCT.
Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo – Former AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa; now AIG, ICT Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Williams Adebowale – Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.
Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali – AIG, FCID Annex, Enugu.
Idegwu Basil Ukuoma – AIG, Zone 14, Katsina.
Adebola Ayinde Hamzat – AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa, former CP, Oyo State Command, and ex-CP Border Patrol.
Promotion of Enugu CP Uzuegbu Kanayo to AIG
CP Kanayo Uzuegbu has been promoted to AIG, following a career spanning multiple commands, including roles as:
Assistant Commissioner of Operations, Zone 9, Umuahia.
Area Commander, Owerri & Karu, Nasarawa State.
Commander, Operation Switch, Port Harcourt.
Deputy Commissioner, Finance & Admin, Edo State Command.
DCP, State CID, Osun State.
CP, Operations & Communication, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
New Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu
PSC also appointed new Commissioners of Police (CPs) for Oyo and Enugu States:
CP Ademola Johnson – Former Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, now CP, Oyo State Command.
CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa – Former DCP Operations, Kaduna and Imo States, now CP, Enugu State Command.

PSC’s Commitment to Strengthening the Police Force
According to a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the promotions followed written examinations and interactive oral interviews.
Presiding over the process, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd) emphasized the importance of supporting the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in maintaining law and order across Nigeria. Also present were:
Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd) – Supreme Court Justice and Judiciary Representative in PSC.
DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd) – Commissioner representing the Police.
Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani – Secretary to the Commission.
Argungu urged the newly appointed DIGs to bring professionalism, dedication, and innovation to their new roles, ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains efficient in securing the country.
