In a decisive move to reinforce national security during the holiday season, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 28,000 personnel across the country.

This large-scale operation, directed by the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, is aimed at ensuring the safety of lives, property, and critical national infrastructure during the festive period.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, the deployment includes operatives from key specialized units such as the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, Operations Department, and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

Dr. Audi emphasized the importance of proactive security measures, warning of a possible surge in criminal activities during the holidays. He stressed the need to forestall potential threats posed by criminal elements, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives.

Speaking during a strategic security meeting with top management, state commandants, and heads of formations, the NSCDC chief called for intensified intelligence gathering through active community engagement.

“No single agency has the monopoly of knowledge in combating insecurity,” Audi noted, highlighting the value of credible information from the public in supporting security operations.

He charged the 36 state commandants and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, as well as local communities, to tackle pressing security issues, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, vandalism, illegal bunkering, and farmers-herders conflicts.

The Commandant General also appealed to private security firms and operators to contribute by sharing intelligence promptly and reinforcing information networks, particularly during emergencies.

“We call on members of the public to support this security drive so that, collectively, we can achieve comprehensive safety and peace nationwide,” Audi stated.

This latest security initiative underscores the NSCDC’s continued commitment to protecting Nigerians and preserving national assets, especially during periods of increased social activity.
