As part of its commitment to promoting credible elections and political stability in West Africa, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has concluded a high-level pre-election information mission to Côte d’Ivoire.

Led by Professor Théodore Holo, the ECOWAS delegation held strategic consultations with major political parties, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, and media professionals between July 2 and 3, 2025.

During the mission, Prof. Holo emphasized that ECOWAS is committed to an inclusive electoral process and is taking inputs from all sides before formulating recommendations.

These will be submitted to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, who will take necessary political decisions in consultation with Julius Maada Bio, the current Chair of the ECOWAS Authority and President of Sierra Leone.

The delegation met with several key political stakeholders, including leaders of the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI-RDA), CAP-CI, PPA-CI, RHDP, and the Constitutional Council. On July 3, the mission also paid a courtesy call on President Alassane Ouattara.

In addition, the delegation engaged with religious and traditional authorities, and local media representatives at the ECOWAS Representation in Abidjan. The day ended with a security briefing at the Ministry of Defence, where Prof. Holo was received by Defence Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara.

The mission comes ahead of Côte d’Ivoire’s upcoming national elections and reflects ECOWAS’s broader role in ensuring peace, democratic accountability, and stakeholder engagement across the region
