- The coalition of Nigerian youth group in collaboration with the coalition of civil society for good governance has made it known that as we draw close to the general election in February 2023. The election is more than a deciding moment for us as a country. It’s a time where all Nigerian must come together to uphold the unity, sanctity and integrity of the nation by ensuring a free, fair and credible election.
However, as a body we will not shy away from our responsibility of drawing the nations attention to some acts that are capable of derailing the effort made by Nigerian to ensure the elections are credible and hitch free.
The group made it known that, president Muhammadu Buhari is not only desirous of bequeathing the legacy of a free and fair election,but is also poised to ensure that all institutions responsible for delivering credible elections are truly independent.
However, the group pointed out some things to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC that adequate voter education is the solution for delivering free, fair and credible election. Moreover such education equip voters with knowing their right and responsibilities.
They also said that education embarked by INEC is inadequate that there is even nonexistent in some places, leaving the voters vulnerable and at the mercy of unscrupulous politicians who tends to take advantage of the situation. The difficulties voters undergo to collect their PVCS is unbearable, aside the difficulties of locating ones PVC, they are also repost of missing PVCs.
The group also Urged INEC that despite the difficulties they face in discharging their responsibilities, they should intensity more efforts to ensure they deliver to the people a free and fair election come February 2023.
The coalition of civil societies has also made it known to the Judiciary, that many Nigerian are enthusiastic about the coming election which is less than 50days, alot of Nigerian have expressed fear on the manipulation of the Judiciary and Judicial system to make nonsense of the gains already made to sanitize the polity.
The group call on all government institution and agencies to live up to their expectations and perform their constitutional roles as required by the law without fear or favour.
