The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has received a significant boost to its digital infrastructure, following the handover of a second consignment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This latest donation forms part of the ECOWAS Peace and Security Architecture and Operations (EPSAO) project, co-financed by the European Union and the German government.

The equipment aims to enhance the digital capabilities of KAIPTC in support of more effective peacekeeping and conflict resolution training across West Africa.

The handover marks the second phase of digital support, building on the initial ICT delivery in 2024. Both phases are the result of a joint needs assessment conducted in 2019 by ECOWAS and its Training Centres of Excellence (TCEs).

Speaking during the ceremony in Accra, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Ghana, Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, reaffirmed the regional bloc’s commitment to strengthening its centres of excellence, stressing that improved digital capacity is key to modern peace operations.

“We believe that equipping our training institutions with the necessary tools will significantly improve the quality and reach of peace support operations across the region,” Ambassador Gana stated.

Also speaking at the event, Acting Commandant of KAIPTC, Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support. He emphasized that the new ICT equipment would be strategically deployed to expand the Centre’s e-learning capabilities, helping to foster peace and stability throughout West Africa and beyond.

The KAIPTC is one of ECOWAS’s premier institutions mandated to train peacekeepers, security personnel, and civil society actors in conflict prevention and resolution, making it a vital hub for promoting peace and security on the continent.
