The House of Representatives has received proposals for the creation of 31 additional states across Nigeria, marking a significant step in ongoing constitutional reforms.
During a plenary session, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who also chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review, announced the proposals and outlined the constitutional requirements necessary for their approval.
Kalu emphasized that the 10th National Assembly remains committed to amending the nation’s constitution to reflect the aspirations of Nigerians.
The state creation requests span all six geopolitical zones, signaling widespread interest in restructuring Nigeria’s administrative framework.
