The Head of Service of Anambra State, Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe, has called on civil servants to actively support the anti-corruption campaign championed by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Program 2. The initiative, funded by the European Union and implemented by International IDEA, aims to combat corruption and strengthen accountability within the state’s civil service.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Anti-Corruption Committees (ACCs) across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Igwegbe, represented by the Permanent Secretary in her office, Mr. Bayo Ojeyinka, urged public servants to help restore integrity within the system.
“Be a soldier of anti-corruption as we are building the institutional mechanism to make it work,” she stated. “RoLAC 2 is set to build on the milestones of RoLAC 1 by promoting transparency, improving access to justice, and strengthening anti-corruption measures across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.”
RoLAC State Coordinator, Dr. Josephine Onah, emphasized the importance of addressing corruption beyond financial misconduct.
“Corruption is not just about money. It can be as simple as properly taking attendance in an office or delivering public services without compromising standards,” she noted. “Our goal is to enhance performance and increase accountability and transparency in governance.”
The newly formed M&E Committee comprises both state and non-state actors, while the ACCs include representatives from various MDAs. Their role will be to monitor compliance with anti-corruption policies and drive institutional reforms within the civil service.
