Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly debunked reports alleging that he is planning to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside five other governors.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the report—circulating on social media—as “false, mischievous, and a politically motivated fabrication.”

“We have become aware of a fictitious and mischievous social media report… alleging plans by me to decamp from the APC to the ADC, alongside five other governors. This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors,” the statement read.
Zulum dismissed the claim as a desperate attempt by detractors to cause political confusion and undermine the progress made in Borno State.

“They are detractors who have made no meaningful contribution to the progress of Borno State or Nigeria,” he said. “It is a classic example of cheap, politically motivated speculation designed solely to distract us and create unnecessary political tension.”
The governor reaffirmed his “unwavering loyalty” to the APC and reiterated his administration’s focus on the continued rebuilding and development of Borno, a state that has long been at the center of insurgency-related crises.

“My loyalty to the APC remains firm, and my dedication is solely to the welfare and progress of Borno State. We have no time for cheap politics; our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state,” he said.
Zulum urged media organisations and the public to verify sensitive political information from credible sources and to avoid amplifying unfounded rumours.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to serving Borno State under the banner of our great party, the APC,” the statement concluded.
