President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Thursday, October 9, 2025, preside over a high-level Council of State meeting and a Police Council session at the State House, Abuja, to deliberate on critical issues of national security, policing, and governance.
The strategic meetings were announced in an official statement released on Tuesday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The meetings will be hybrid, with participants attending either physically at the Council Chambers, Aso Villa, or virtually, in line with ongoing efforts to enhance national coordination and policy execution.
Meeting Schedule
- Council of State Meeting: 1:00 p.m.
- Police Council Meeting: 2:00 p.m.
The Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, confirmed that the agenda will focus on pressing national security challenges, policing reforms, and governance priorities.
Key Focus: National Security and Policing
According to the SGF, Senator George Akume, the sessions are designed to align Nigeria’s leadership — including current and former heads of state, governors, and security chiefs — on shared goals for security, stability, and development.
“This high-level meeting underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues and ensuring the safety and security of citizens,” the statement read.
This will be President Tinubu’s second Council of State meeting since taking office. His first, held on August 13, 2024, was attended by former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari, serving governors, and other key stakeholders.
