The National Universities Commission (NUC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Daimlas Corporation, a leading global AI firm, to establish a robust artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem across Nigerian universities.
The collaboration aims to equip academic institutions with state-of-the-art AI resources, foster cutting-edge research, and create a platform for AI-driven education in the country.
Speaking at the signing ceremony for the NUC AI Centre of Excellence in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, emphasized the NUC’s commitment to ensuring the project’s success.
“We are happy to be part of this initiative, and we are ready to make it work,” he stated.
Daimlas Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Joseph Wehbe, highlighted the strategic importance of AI ecosystems, noting that academia plays a central role in AI advancements.
“In a fully functioning AI ecosystem, you have research centers, AI labs, AI for entrepreneurs, AI for kids, and AI-driven solutions for businesses,” Wehbe explained. “This initiative will create pathways for every Nigerian university that wants to participate in the AI economy.”
Daimlas currently operates five AI ecosystems globally—in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., California, and Saudi Arabia. In Nigeria, the firm is already collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Innovation on two AI initiatives.
We reaffirmed Daimlas Corporation’s commitment to supporting Nigerian universities as they integrate into the AI ecosystem, ensuring long-term engagement and sustainability.
