The U.S. Department of State has approved the sale of munitions worth $151.8 million to Israel as tensions with Iran continue to escalate in the Middle East.

In a statement released by the State Department confirmed that the sale includes 12,000 units of 1,000-pound (470-kilogram) bomb bodies requested by Israel.

According to the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, which approved the transaction, the move is intended to strengthen Israel’s defense capabilities amid rising regional threats.

“The proposed sale will improve Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats, strengthen its homeland defense, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats,” the bureau said in a statement.

The approval comes at a time of heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with the conflict raising concerns about the potential for a wider war across the Middle East.

Officials said the weapons package forms part of Washington’s continued security cooperation with Israel, a long-standing strategic ally in the region.

Security analysts say the sale signals the United States’ commitment to supporting Israel’s military preparedness while attempting to maintain a strategic balance in the volatile region.
