Russia says it is closely monitoring developments in Nigeria following reports that the United States may consider military action in the country after recent comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

During a press briefing in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova said Moscow expects Washington to act responsibly and in line with international law. She made the remarks in response to a question from Anadolu Agency.

“We are carefully observing this issue and call on all parties involved to comply with international legal norms,” Zakharova stated.

Trump had announced on November 1 that he instructed the Pentagon to explore potential military options against terrorist groups in Nigeria, claiming the move was intended to protect Christian communities.

When asked about Kazakhstan’s decision to join the Abraham Accords, Zakharova said Russia had no immediate comment. Kazakhstan confirmed its participation after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call attended by Trump.

Zakharova also expressed concern over ongoing Israeli violations of ceasefire agreements along the Lebanese border, urging all sides to avoid actions that could escalate regional tensions.

She reiterated Russia’s commitment to collaborating with international and regional partners to promote peace and stability in Lebanon, the Middle East, and beyond.
