The U.S. Department of State has revoked over 80,000 visas belonging to foreign nationals, including Nigerians, as part of a sweeping immigration enforcement action.

In a statement released on Thursday, the department reveals that the decision aligns with President Donald Trump’s commitment to protect the lives and interests of American citizens, describing the move as “promises made, promises kept.”

Authorities also revealed that the affected individuals were involved in a range of criminal offenses.

In 2025 alone, records show 16,000 cases of driving under the influence, 12,000 cases of assault, and 8,000 cases of theft.

The Department of State emphasized that the United States will continue to revoke or deny visas for individuals who pose threats to public safety or violate U.S. laws.

Beyond criminal acts, other causes cited for the mass visa cancellations include, links to terrorism or support for terrorist groups, public safety and national security threats, as well as overstaying visa durations.

The move underscores Washington’s renewed focus on tightening immigration controls and strengthening border security to ensure compliance with U.S. laws.
