Nigerian singer Kcee has finally spoken publicly about long-standing rumours of a rift between him and fellow artiste Flavour.
During an interview on Yanga FM, Kcee addressed the speculation by revisiting the early days of their careers, specifically when music executive Soso Soberekon allegedly introduced Flavour to him for a possible record deal, an offer Kcee said he declined.
Reflecting on the moment, Kcee explained that his decision was not based on personal issues but on the fact that he couldn’t foresee Flavour’s potential at the time.
In his words: “Person wey Soso bring make I sign? I don dey drive Hummer, Navigator, dey ball before him from East come. I was a big boy… I say I no wan sign because I no see the future at that point. Time go tell.”
Kcee also addressed a previous social media outburst in which he criticized individuals who, according to him, were acting like “custodians of culture” after he featured an artiste similar to Flavour in one of his projects.
He believes the perceived tension between them did not originate from the rejected deal, but rather from what he described as a “superiority complex” within the industry.
According to Kcee, some colleagues underestimate him because he doesn’t flaunt his achievements.
“When some people write you off, hoping you’ll remain stagnant, and then you work hard and get to a level they didn’t expect, that’s when the problem starts,” he said.
Kcee further emphasized that his success in the music industry predates Flavour’s rise to fame, noting that he was already living comfortably and enjoying mainstream success before Flavour moved to Lagos. He maintained that many still underrate his talent simply because of his humility.
