Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, are mourning the loss of one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away at the age of 21 months after a brief illness.

 

The heartbreaking news was confirmed in a statement issued on behalf of the family by Omawumi Ogbe, describing the loss as “profound” and requesting privacy during this difficult period.

 

“We’re deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege’s twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away after a brief illness. He was 21 months old,” the statement read.

 

The family expressed their devastation over the tragic loss and appealed to the public and media for understanding and respect for their privacy.

 

“The family is devastated by this profound loss, and we request that their privacy be respected during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement added.

 

They also called for prayers and compassion as they grieve in private.

 

“We ask for your grace and prayers as they mourn in private. No further statements will be made, and we thank the public and the media for respecting their need for seclusion during this period of immense grief.”

 

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is internationally celebrated for her literary works, including Half of a Yellow Sun, Americanah, and Purple Hibiscus. The news of the family’s loss has drawn an outpouring of sympathy from fans and well-wishers around the world.
