FG Launches 10 Committees to Strengthen Education, prioritize Girls’ Leaning

In a strategic move to improve education quality and expand learning opportunities, the Federal Government has inaugurated ten committees aimed at strengthening academic standards and addressing barriers to education, particularly for girls.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, who presided over the event in Abuja, stated that five of the committees will focus on implementing quality education policies and monitoring learning outcomes, while the remaining five will develop a framework for Luminah 2030—a new initiative designed to promote girls’ education and ensure their academic success.

Dr. Alausa highlighted that the initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to eliminate the out-of-school children crisis and reposition the education sector for efficiency. He urged stakeholders—including educators, parents, development partners, and private sector players—to collaborate in driving the success of these programs.

“The success of these initiatives does not rest solely on government efforts. It requires the unwavering support of all stakeholders to push the boundaries of innovation, inclusion, and excellence,” he said.

The committees draw expertise from key government ministries, including Education, Women Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, and Trade and Investment, alongside representatives from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The five committees focused on quality education and learning outcomes will oversee:

National Monitoring of Learning Achievement (NMLA)
School Grading System
Monitoring and Evaluation
Teacher Capacity Building – Communities of Practice (CoP)
Teacher Capacity Building – Training Manual/National Framework
Meanwhile, the Luminah 2030 initiative will be supported by:

National Steering Committee
Technical Advisory Committee
Stakeholder Engagement, Advocacy, and Communication Committee
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Accountability Committee
Private Sector, Development Partners, and Donor Engagement Committee
With government backing and multi-sectoral collaboration, these initiatives aim to strengthen Nigeria’s education system, ensuring better learning outcomes and increased opportunities for young learners, especially girls.
