President Bola Tinubu has appointed six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) to lead federal government-owned hospitals in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafiya, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan.
The appointments, which span newly established and existing healthcare institutions, reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
List of Newly Appointed CMDs:
Professor Olusegun Sylvester Ojo – Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State.
Previously served as the pioneer CMD of Ondo State Specialist Hospital.
Professor Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi – Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.
Reappointed for a second term due to outstanding leadership and contributions to hospital growth.
Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum – Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State.
Former Acting CMD, now confirmed as substantive CMD.
Dr. Ikrama Hassan – Federal Teaching Hospital, Lafiya, Nasarawa State.
Consultant physician and former Medical Director of Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital.
Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat – National Orthopedic Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State.
Renowned Consultant Orthopedic and Spine Surgeon.
Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu – Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
Consultant Family Physician appointed to lead the newly established FMC.
Tenure and Presidential Endorsement
A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that all appointments are for a four-year term, effective from the dates of assumption. Professor Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi’s second and final term began on September 5, 2024, while Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum’s tenure at Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, commenced on December 6, 2024.
