In a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation, Nigeria and Sweden have pledged to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations, placing particular emphasis on trade, sustainable development, gender equality, and cultural exchange.

This resolution was reached during a high-level meeting between Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima and Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The Crown Princess is in Nigeria on a three-day official visit aimed at fostering greater collaboration between the two nations.

Vice President Shettima hailed the visit as a gateway to more robust institutional engagement and deeper people-to-people ties, noting that Nigeria sees immense potential in aligning with Sweden’s strengths.

“We are particularly excited about opportunities in renewable energy, precision agriculture, healthcare innovation, and gender inclusion—areas where Sweden has much to offer, and Nigeria is eager to learn,” Shettima said.

He emphasized that these sectors represent “building blocks in a broader architecture of cooperation,” positioning Sweden as a strategic partner in Nigeria’s drive towards digital inclusion, educational reform, sustainable agriculture, and clean energy.

Crown Princess Victoria expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria-Sweden relations, describing both nations as natural partners across multiple sectors.

“It’s wonderful to see the opportunities here. I think it’s especially important to strengthen these ties in the times we live in today,” she remarked, adding that Sweden is strongly considering establishing a permanent trade office in Nigeria—a step she said is long overdue.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who also participated in the discussions, noted that talks with the Swedish delegation covered trade, green energy, agriculture, and ICT. He also revealed plans for structured international employment partnerships through Nigeria’s Technical Aid Corps to address migration challenges.

The visit underscores a shared commitment to addressing global challenges while exploring innovative pathways for inclusive growth and mutual prosperity.
