[08/06, 6:25 pm] rosewendy: The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement released on Sunday and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister extended warm congratulations to all Nigerians as the country marks 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
“June 12 represents our historic journey towards building a nation where truth, justice, and peace prevail, with a future firmly assured for all Nigerians,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
Reflecting on the nation’s democratic journey, the Minister noted that the past 26 years have been a testament to Nigeria’s resilience, unity, and enduring spirit, describing it as a period of “renewed hope” for a brighter, inclusive future.
He further emphasized the current administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening democratic values. “Democracy thrives when the will of the people is freely expressed and respected in determining the political, economic, social, and cultural direction of the country,” Tunji-Ojo added.
The Minister reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda remains dedicated to safeguarding these universal principles, ensuring that Nigeria’s democracy continues to evolve and deliver dividends to its citizens.
