The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by four days, following a surge in voter turnout and growing demand from eligible residents.

The CVR exercise, originally scheduled to end on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, will now continue until Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to a statement released on INEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.

INEC CVR Extension Aims to Prevent Voter Disenfranchisement

The decision to extend the CVR in Abuja was reached after a comprehensive review of electoral activities during INEC’s third quarterly meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on October 7, 2025.

“The extension is to accommodate the high turnout recorded across the FCT and ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised,” the Commission stated.

As of October 7, a total of 55,346 new voter registrations had been recorded in the capital, including 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations.

Online Pre-Registration Remains Suspended in FCT

While INEC acknowledged the growing civic engagement in the territory, it clarified that the online pre-registration portal remains suspended in the FCT to allow those who have already pre-registered to complete their registration in person at designated centres, in line with the Electoral Act 2022.

“The impressive turnout underscores the growing civic awareness among FCT residents and the effectiveness of devolving the exercise to grassroots communities,” the Commission said.

INEC Urges Eligible Residents to Register Before Deadline

INEC urged eligible voters in Abuja who are yet to register to take advantage of the extended CVR window, while reminding Nigerians that multiple registrations are prohibited by law and carry legal penalties.

The Commission also encouraged registered voters who wish to transfer their registration to the FCT or within the FCT to do so before the new deadline.

INEC confirmed that the list and addresses of all voter registration centres in the Federal Capital Territory are available on its official website and verified social media platforms.

The electoral body also commended FCT residents, stakeholders, and its field officers for their commitment to a transparent and inclusive voter registration process ahead of the 2025 elections.
