Niger State has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafiu Bawah, who reportedly took his own life.
The incident occurred on February 8, 2025, at the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Kontagora, according to a statement issued by the Niger State Police Command on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that Bawah died by hanging, though the motive behind his suicide remains unclear.
Authorities removed the officer’s body from the scene and later handed it over to his family for burial.
Meanwhile, the Niger State Police Command has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
