Nigerian singer Tekno has shared his views on the changing nature of relationships, saying love has become less genuine since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking during an interview with Cool FM, the singer said many people are no longer willing to love wholeheartedly, suggesting that the prolonged time couples spent together during the pandemic may have altered how they viewed their relationships.
“People got to spend time with their partners during that period, so maybe they realised they didn’t really like them. I feel like since then, people have leaned into not wanting to love as much,” he said.
Tekno also argued that the shift in attitudes towards relationships is becoming increasingly evident in society, claiming that even the wives of respected public figures are now being pursued by younger men.
“Marriages don’t work. You even have some of our legends’ wives getting chopped by some of the new boys,” he said.
The singer lamented what he described as the decline of genuine romance, noting that love once occupied a central place in people’s lives and was a dominant theme in movies.
“There was a time when love was a real thing. Even our movies revolved around love. Now our movies are just clout and influencing. It doesn’t feel organic,” he said.
Tekno also emphasised the importance of giving partners space in relationships.
“If you can’t appreciate the absence, the presence doesn’t really make sense,” he added.
