Popular Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has encouraged individuals to prioritize personal happiness over societal expectations when it comes to marriage.
Speaking at a recent event in Lagos, the comedian known for his humorous yet thought-provoking take on relationships, emphasized that staying true to oneself was more important than maintaining appearances.
“Some people like to announce their divorce and some don’t. All that matters is your happiness,” Bovi said.
He went on to cite examples from the Nigerian entertainment industry, noting that several celebrities have chosen to leave unhappy marriages in pursuit of peace and fulfillment.
“Uche jumped out of marriage and nobody knew. 2Face is the only man who left one marriage into the next and successfully skipped the divorce process,” he joked.
Bovi added that the need for happiness applies to both men and women, urging people not to let public opinion dictate their personal lives.
“Personal fulfillment should come before public perception,” he concluded.
His comments have sparked conversations on social media about mental health, marital expectations, and individual happiness within Nigerian society.
