The Presidency has announced a significant 81 percent reduction in terror-related fatalities across Nigeria since 2015, crediting the achievement to enhanced counter-insurgency operations, better security agency coordination, and stronger community cooperation.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Sunday, the Presidency revealed that over 13,000 terrorists were neutralized in the past year, while over 124,000 fighters and their families have surrendered to Nigerian security forces.

The statement also reveals that approximately 2.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their communities, with reconstruction and rehabilitation projects currently underway in several formerly affected regions.

To further strengthen post-conflict recovery, the Federal Government has launched a Resettlement Scheme for Conflict-Affected Persons, aimed at rebuilding destroyed communities and helping displaced citizens reintegrate into society.

Since 2023, Nigeria’s security agencies have intensified their pursuit, arrest, and prosecution of terrorist elements, leading to the conviction of over 124 individuals linked to major terror attacks.

Among those facing trial are members of the Ansaru terrorist group and suspects connected to the 2022 Owo Church attack and the Yelwata reprisal killings in Benue State.

The Presidency further highlighted several ongoing security measures to include, Joint task force deployments across high-risk zones, Enhanced border surveillance with domestic and regional partners, Victim compensation initiatives, and Expanded intelligence-sharing with international allies.

It reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting citizens, upholding national security, and ensuring the long-term stability of communities recovering from insurgency and terrorism.
