First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu and the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke were involved in a brief confrontation on Sunday during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The event also featured the conferment of the chieftaincy title Yeye-Asiwaju of Ile Oodua on the First Lady.
The ceremony drew notable dignitaries from across Nigeria, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving and former governors, senators, and traditional rulers.
During the celebration, Governor Adeleke stepped onto the podium to deliver a speech. True to his well-known style, he began by dancing briefly before breaking into song.
This prompted Senator Tinubu to approach him, saying, “I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough.”
Despite her remarks, Governor Adeleke continued singing. The First Lady returned moments later and warned, “I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.”
Videos of the exchange had since gone viral across social media platforms.
Governor Adeleke, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently exploring new political platforms ahead of his second-term bid.
In his resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Ward 2, Ede, he cited internal party crises as his reason for leaving.
On December 2, Adedamola Adebayo emerged as the PDP’s candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Following her title conferment, Senator Tinubu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic future, declaring that the nation’s prosperity from next year would be “unstoppable.”
According to her, “By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity. Other countries will come and borrow money from us. Those wondering how we will do it, we will show them.”
She added that President Bola Tinubu’s administration would surprise critics with its achievements.
The First Lady also thanked the Ooni for the honour, noting that it marked her return to social engagements, her last major public appearance being her 50th birthday celebration.
