Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has granted full scholarships to five students of Bethel Baptist High School, who were among the victims of a 2021 bandit attack and mass abduction.
On July 5, 2021, armed bandits stormed the school in Damishi, Kaduna, abducting 121 students. While most have since graduated, five remained in school. In a move to support their education and future, Senator Katung announced the scholarships during a fundraising event organized by the Kaduna Baptist Conference to rebuild the school.
Through his education foundation, Katung pledged to fully sponsor the students’ education, covering tuition from secondary school to university.
“From today, my education foundation will take full responsibility for their education up to the university level,” Katung declared at the event, offering much-needed relief to the students and their families, who have endured immense hardship.
The attack on Bethel Baptist High School was one of many incidents highlighting the security challenges faced by schools in Kaduna State. Katung’s initiative serves as a beacon of hope for the affected families, emphasizing the need for continuous support for victims of such tragedies.
