Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has dispelled rumours about his health following a public appearance at an official meeting in Abuja on Sunday.

Amid unverified reports suggesting the Minister was battling a serious illness, Edun appeared hale, hearty, and in high spirits at Fraser Suites, where he attended a high-level meeting alongside the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and a delegation from Qatar.

According to officials present at the meeting, which lasted over an hour, discussions centered on deepening economic and investment cooperation between Nigeria and Qatar. Edun was said to have actively contributed to the talks, engaging with Qatari delegates and offering insights on Nigeria’s economic reform agenda.

“He was articulate, energetic, and fully engaged throughout the session,” a senior official who attended the meeting confirmed.

Edun was later seen leaving briefly for a lunch break, further discrediting claims about ill health.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The meeting aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen economic diplomacy and attract foreign direct investment. The Ministry of Finance plays a pivotal role in coordinating these initiatives, particularly under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic renewal plan.

Edun’s appearance comes just days after other public sightings, including his visit to a gallery booth in London, where he was also reported to be in good spirits.
