Comoros have set up a second-round Olympic qualifying showdown with Nigeria’s Super Falcons after recording a staggering 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the first round of the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.

The Coelacanths delivered one of the most dominant performances in recent African women’s football history, thrashing Sudan 17-0 in the first leg before sealing qualification with a 13-0 victory in the return fixture five days later.

Comoros wasted little time asserting their superiority in the opening encounter, scoring after just eight minutes and maintaining relentless pressure throughout the match.

Nine different players found the net in the first leg, underlining the team’s attacking depth and clinical finishing as Sudan struggled to contain the hosts.

The second leg followed a similar pattern, with Comoros taking a 3-0 lead into the break before adding 10 more goals in the second half to complete a comprehensive 13-0 win.

The result secured a remarkable 30-0 aggregate triumph and booked a place in the next round against Nigeria, Africa’s most successful women’s national team.

Despite Comoros’ impressive scoring exploits, the Super Falcons are widely expected to enter the tie as overwhelming favourites.

Nigeria have shown encouraging form ahead of the qualifiers. Coach Justine Madugu’s side recently defeated Senegal 3-0 in a friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, following a 2-1 victory over the same opponents in an earlier meeting.

The second-round qualifiers are scheduled to take place later this year, with a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles at stake.

Only two African nations will secure qualification for the women’s football tournament at the Games, making the upcoming clash one of the most significant tests yet for the rapidly improving Comorian side.
