Linda Yaccarino, Chief Executive Officer of X (formerly Twitter), has announced her resignation after two transformative years at the helm of the social media platform.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, Yaccarino did not specify the reasons behind her decision but hinted that the company was entering “a new chapter” following its acquisition by Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏,” Yaccarino wrote. “When #ElonMusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.”
Yaccarino expressed gratitude to Musk for entrusting her with leading the platform’s transformation — overseeing initiatives to protect free speech, regain advertiser trust, and position X as a multipurpose digital hub.
Reflecting on her tenure, Yaccarino applauded the X team for driving key reforms, from prioritizing user safety — particularly for children — to restoring relationships with advertisers and launching innovations like Community Notes and the soon-to-be-unveiled X Money service.
“I’m incredibly proud of the X team. The historic business turnaround we’ve accomplished together has been remarkable,” she said. “Now, the best is yet to come as X moves forward with #xAI.”
Appointed in May 2023 following Musk’s $44 billion takeover of Twitter, Yaccarino’s leadership marked a critical phase in the platform’s evolution as it sought to reposition itself as “the world’s digital town square” and integrate AI-driven services.
Elon Musk, who also oversees Tesla and SpaceX, is yet to comment publicly on Yaccarino’s departure or reveal her successor.
