The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the dates and host countries for several major competitions in the 2026-27 football calendar.
CAF said the move would provide greater certainty for national football associations, commercial partners, broadcasters and supporters across the continent.
In a statement published on its website, CAF said it had made “significant progress in strengthening its Competitions calendar”.
“The increasingly stable calendar reflects CAF’s continued commitment to strengthening its existing Competitions while developing important new properties that will create additional opportunities at senior and youth level,” it said.
The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, to be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in 2027, will have its qualifying competition begin next month.
South Africa to host CAF Super Cup
South Africa will host the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup in Tshwane later this year.
The match will see Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns face Confederation Cup holders USM Alger.
The fixture is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT).
Ghana, Morocco and Egypt awarded youth tournaments
CAF has also confirmed the host countries for three major youth competitions.
Ghana will host the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations next year, while Morocco will stage the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt will host the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
CAF said it was considering launching a new Under-17 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations next year, subject to sporting and organisational requirements.
The proposed tournament would create another competitive pathway for young female footballers.
Morocco will also host the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in October, while Senegal will stage the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
Champions League and Confederation Cup dates set
CAF said the draws for the preliminary rounds of the 2026-27 Champions League and Confederation Cup had been completed.
The first preliminary rounds of both competitions will take place next month, followed by the return legs later in the month.
CAF also said discussions on the proposed African Nations League had progressed, with its Executive Committee considering the competition’s format.
“The progress across these competitions is an important step in CAF’s objective of creating a more stable and predictable African football calendar,” CAF said.
The governing body said a more predictable calendar would help member associations plan ahead, while giving players clearer competitive pathways and broadcasters, sponsors and supporters greater visibility of major events.
