A video shared by Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, has sparked online debate after it appeared to show substandard accommodation ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff match in Morocco.

The footage went viral, with fans criticizing the facility as “unfit” for the national team and comparing it to a school hostel. The post quickly fueled discussions about the treatment of Nigerian players abroad.

Iwobi, however, clarified his intentions, stating, “I didn’t say anything; I just showed the video,” emphasizing that his post was misinterpreted by the public.

In response, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the Super Eagles are staying at RIVE Hotel in Rabat.

The NFF explained that the viral video actually showed an old building visible from the hotel window and that RIVE Hotel was chosen for its proximity to the team’s training ground and stadium.

With attention now back on the high-stakes match against Morocco, the lodging controversy highlights how quickly social media content could be misread, and the importance of accurate reporting on team arrangements abroad.
