The Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation Giving Back Initiative has launched the distribution of ₦13.8 million in grants to 277 widows, orphaned mothers, and individuals with disabilities in Sokoto State to support small-scale businesses.

At the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of the initiative, Malam Lawal Maidoki, emphasized that the program aligns with the foundation’s commitment to alleviating economic hardship among the less privileged.

According to Maidoki, 12 beneficiaries were selected from each of the state’s 23 local government areas (LGAs)—including 10 widows or orphaned mothers and two individuals with disabilities per LGA. Each recipient will receive ₦50,000, along with transportation support ranging from ₦3,000 to ₦5,000, depending on their distance from the distribution centers.

He highlighted that the initiative aims to provide recipients with the capital needed to sustain their daily needs, generate income, and strengthen the grassroots economy.

Speaking at the event, Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Malam Yahaya Boyi, commended former Governor Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa for his generosity. He urged beneficiaries to use the funds for productive ventures rather than resorting to begging. He also called on them to pray for the donor, Sokoto State, and Nigeria, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

One of the beneficiaries, Shehu Gwiwa, expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients, thanking the foundation for its support and praying for divine blessings upon those involved in the initiative.
