An Enugu State Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of 51-year-old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, a member of a neighbourhood security watch group, over the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, in Nsukka, Enugu State.
The spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that Nwangwu was arraigned on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, following the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID).
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arraignment was carried out on the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
Nwangwu was arrested on December 1, 2025, after allegedly assaulting the victim, leading to injuries that resulted in her death. The incident occurred shortly after the young woman reportedly accused him of long-term sexual abuse and threats.
Following his arrest, CP Giwa ordered a thorough investigation and directed that the matter be charged to court without delay.
“Consequently, the suspect has been arraigned before the Enugu State Magistrate Court on a one-count charge of murder,” the statement read.
The court has ordered his remand and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), for review and legal advice.
CP Giwa expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and assured them that justice is in motion, as the investigation has been completed and the suspect has been formally charged and remanded.
Nwangwu was appointed the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Ibeku Opi earlier this year.
