A senior chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has sparked debate after suggesting that United Kingdom should consider returning to help restructure Nigeria.
Galadima made the remarks during an appearance on a program aired by Africa Independent Television (AIT), where he expressed deep concern about the country’s current political and security situation.
According to him, Nigeria’s leaders must set aside personal interests and focus on protecting citizens while creating conditions that allow people and businesses to thrive.
He argued that if the government is unable to restore order through conventional means, authorities should consider alternative options, including hiring mercenaries or seeking external assistance.
“The government should remove selfishness and do the job of protecting citizens and providing an enabling environment for them to thrive,” Galadima said during the interview.
He added that if local solutions fail, the government could consider inviting Britain to help enforce the rule of law, strengthen democratic institutions, and tackle corruption in the country.
