The Lagos State Government has begun an investigation into the reported death of a Lagos socialite popularly known as Elena Jessica, following a cosmetic surgery procedure.
Reports indicate that Elena allegedly died after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), a cosmetic enhancement procedure, at a clinic in Lagos.
The investigation is being carried out by the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), the state body responsible for regulating, monitoring, and accrediting health facilities.
In a statement released on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Permanent Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu, confirmed that the probe was initiated after reports circulating on social media claimed the woman developed complications after the aesthetic procedure.
Idowu noted that while the clinic where the surgery reportedly took place is registered with the regulatory agency, such registration does not exempt any medical facility from scrutiny when issues relating to patient safety arise.
Authorities say the investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether proper medical standards and procedures were followed.
