Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has pledged full support for the development of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, describing it as a transformative institution that will boost human capital development and revolutionize healthcare delivery across the region.
Speaking through Yakubu Sani Haidara, the Head of Service of Zamfara State, during the official inauguration of the university’s pioneer Vice Chancellor in Abuja, the governor hailed the establishment of the institution as a strategic win for the people of Tsafe and the state at large.
According to the governor, the university will not only expand access to advanced medical and technological education but also position Zamfara as a key player in healthcare innovation and research in Nigeria. He emphasized the state’s commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure the institution thrives and delivers on its core mandate.
Governor Lawal commended Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis, representing Zamfara Central, for his dedication and legislative efforts that led to the creation of the university. He described Senator Bilbis as a visionary leader who understands the developmental needs of the region.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday, May 11, 2025, at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, featured the formal presentation of an appointment letter to Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, mni, who was named as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, congratulated Professor Yakasai and hailed the event as the beginning of a new era for Tsafe and Zamfara State. Dr. Alausa stressed that the university would serve as a centre of excellence in education, healthcare, and research, contributing meaningfully to regional and national growth.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Senator Bilbis, whose “relentless advocacy” played a crucial role in making the university a reality.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, reinforced the government’s commitment to equitable access to higher education across Nigeria. She noted that the establishment of Federal Universities of Health Sciences and Technology is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at fast-tracking development through education and healthcare transformation.
Professor Ahmad congratulated Professor Yakasai, stating that the legacy he builds as the first Vice Chancellor will shape the reputation and future of the university for generations.
