The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim has charged Store Officers in the Scheme to embrace the deployment of ICT tools in this discharge of their official duties.
He said this will keep them abreast with methods of stock inventory and analysis in accordance with global best practices.
He stated this while declaring open the 2022 NYSC Store Officers Workshop, with the theme; “Employing The Use of ICT For Effective Store Management”, held in Abuja.
General Ibrahim, whose address was read at the workshop by the Director, ICT, Mrs Christy Uba said management would continue to purse a technologically driven organisation to deepen effective service delivery in line with his policy thrust.
He added that the Scheme has facilitated the establishment of a digital centre in Rivers State Secretariat through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in addition to expanding the use of ICT tools in the operations of the Scheme.
“We are at the process of completing and commissioning of the NYSC ICT building situated at the NDHQ premises”, he said
The DG further charged the workshop participants to pay attention to proceeding at the workshop as the benefits would guarrantee improved stock control, reduction in wastages as well as transform the scheme into anworld-class service provider.
He added that the evolution of store management in the public service is to eliminate bottlenecks in the documentation of official items, ensuring that goods and supplies keep to specific standards as well as providing security for the goods.
The Director, General Services Department, Mr Emmanuel Attah in his welcome address said it is obvious that a good store officer must be computer literate, as his assignment involves proper record-keeping and effective management and dispensing of store items through the use of information technology tools.
“It is noteworthy that store management has moved from manual to digital operation.
“The use of ICT will not only enable store officers plan effectively but also enhance collaboration with other stakeholders, as well as bring about improvement in the quality of information shared across the various chains of command”, he said.
