The Standing Committee on Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the ECOWAS Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) met with the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah. The high-level engagement focused on strengthening collaboration, improving strategic information exchange, and fast-tracking the implementation of key decisions by the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government.

Led by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, His Excellency Musa Sani Nuhu, the ambassadors commended the Commissioner and his Department for their unwavering commitment and close partnership over the past three years in addressing peace and stability challenges across West Africa.

In his remarks, Ambassador Musah congratulated Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner, His Excellency Julius Sandy, on his country’s assumption of the Chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority, noting that regular dialogue with Member States’ envoys remains crucial for effective regional governance.

Flanked by top officials — including Dr. Cyriaque Agnekethom, Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, and Gen. Mactar Diop, Chief of Staff of the ECOWAS Standby Force — Musah emphasized the strategic role of his Department in sustaining peace, security, and regional integration.

“There’s a pressing need to institutionalize a structured and organic decision-making process similar to what we see at the United Nations and African Union,” the Commissioner stated. “We must think regionally and foster two-way communication between the Department and Member States to achieve the PRC’s goals. This forum offers a valuable platform for exchanging ideas to the benefit of our entire region.”

In a collective statement, the ECOWAS envoys pledged their continued support for initiatives aimed at enhancing regional peace and development.
