The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, rejecting unverified claims circulating on social media.
The examination body said the results were produced through rigorous and transparent procedures designed to ensure accuracy, fairness and quality.
WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the Council welcomed genuine scrutiny but urged the public to separate legitimate concerns from unverified claims.
“The Council welcomes constructive scrutiny as part of its accountability to candidates, parents, schools, and the wider public,” WAEC said.
It added that the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in line with its established operational procedures and relevant education policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
WAEC said candidates’ scripts passed through several stages of marking, moderation and auditing. The process, it said, involved standardised marking schemes and vetted subject experts to promote objective and fair assessment.
The Council acknowledged that concerns over examination results were understandable, particularly for candidates preparing for further education, but warned against relying on claims circulating on social media without verification.
“WAEC maintains clear procedures for addressing queries or grievances,” the Council said, urging candidates and members of the public with concerns to use its official offices and verified online platforms.
The examination body reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of its examinations and the interests of candidates.
