The political landscape in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency has shifted as Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima (popularly known as OmoBarca) formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and declared his ambition to contest for the House of Representatives seat.
The defection ceremony, held on Saturday in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, attracted a large turnout of supporters, community leaders, and party faithful. Among the dignitaries present were the National Secretary of the ADC, Hon. Rauf Aregbesola, and Hon. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate. Their attendance highlighted the growing influence of the ADC as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
In his declaration, OmoBarca stressed that his political journey is anchored on grassroots empowerment, youth development, and improved federal representation.
“I want to see a constituency where youths have jobs, women thrive in business, and children gain better access to education. That is the representation I intend to bring to Abuja,” he stated.
He also called on his rivals to embrace fair play and respect the will of the electorate, discouraging post-election litigations.
Hon. Aregbesola described OmoBarca as a grassroots politician and philanthropist, whose track record would strengthen the ADC’s chances in Lagos. Rhodes-Vivour, on his part, praised OmoBarca’s consistency in championing community causes and urged residents to back him.
The event also marked the inauguration of OmoBarca’s campaign team, with supporters pledging loyalty to his ambition. Political observers note that his popularity at the grassroots, combined with the support of national leaders, positions him as a strong contender in one of Lagos State’s most competitive constituencies.
As the countdown to 2027 intensifies, OmoBarca’s move is being described as a potential “game-changer” in Ajeromi-Ifelodun politics.
