Global music star Shakira has released “Dai Dai”, the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy.

The Colombian singer announced the song’s release on social media, telling fans: “Dai Dai is here. The @FIFAWorldCup 2026 starts now!”

In a statement shared on X, FIFA said the track was now available on major streaming platforms and described it as a celebration of “energy, passion and global spirit” ahead of football’s biggest tournament.

FIFA said the song would support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100m before the end of the tournament to improve access to education and football opportunities for children worldwide.

“Dai Dai will be the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Song in support of FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund,” the organisation said. “The track captures the energy, passion and global spirit that will define the greatest show on earth.”

The football governing body added that royalties generated from the song would contribute to the fund, while Shakira would donate her share of royalties. Sony Music is also expected to match the first $250,000 raised with an additional donation.

The song carries themes of resilience, ambition and unity, while referencing football icons including Pelé, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah.

Several football nations, including Brazil, Argentina, England, France and Nigeria, are also mentioned in the track.

The release marks Shakira’s return to the World Cup music stage after her globally successful tournament songs “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the previous World Cup in South Africa and “La La La” for the previous tournament in Brazil.

It is also the second time a Nigerian artiste has featured on an official World Cup song after Davido appeared on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” alongside Trinidad Cardona and AISHA ahead of the Qatar previous World Cup.

Meanwhile, FIFA announced that Nigerian singer Rema will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles next month.

Shakira is also expected to co-headline the tournament’s final halftime show in what FIFA says will be the first halftime performance in World Cup history.

According to the organisation, the show will unite global entertainers “at the intersection of sport, culture, and purpose” to support the education initiative.

FIFA added that “Dai Dai” follows earlier releases from the official World Cup 2026 album, including “Lighter”, “Por Ella”, “Echo” and “Illuminate”, with more singles expected ahead of the tournament.
