In a surprising development, a 20-year-old man suspected to be behind a string of violent crimes in Kano and Jigawa States has turned himself in to authorities.
The suspect, identified as Umar Auwal, popularly known by the alias “Abba Dujal,” is a resident of Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the Kano State Police Command, Auwal confessed to multiple counts of culpable homicide, armed robbery, and the theft of motorcycles and mobile phones.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that Auwal’s voluntary surrender was influenced by heightened police operations and a crackdown on criminal hideouts across the state.
During interrogation, Auwal admitted to stabbing a man known as “Boka” in Sabon Gari Quarters, stealing his Infinix Hot 40i smartphone, and selling it for N40,000.
He also confessed to killing another victim in Kurna Quarters, making away with a Samsung S26 phone later sold for N160,000.
In another violent incident in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Auwal reportedly killed a man and sold the victim’s stolen motorcycle for N300,000.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kano, where detectives are working to verify his confessions and identify potential accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, commended Auwal for surrendering, urging other criminals in the region to follow suit.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to purging the state of crime and ensuring public safety.
The police also appealed to residents for continued support through the provision of timely and credible information to aid ongoing investigations and enhance overall security.
