A Former Youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Simon Obinna, also known as MC Tagwaye, has declared his intention to contest the chairmanship of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) under the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The aspirant has pledged to prioritize education, youth empowerment, and grassroots economic development if elected.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Dr. Obinna revealed that his decision to leave the APC stemmed from his disillusionment with the party’s direction and what he described as a departure from its founding principles.
> “The APC no longer prioritizes the welfare and progress of Nigerians,” he said. “As someone who has witnessed these struggles firsthand, I decided to join the SDP and run for AMAC chairman to drive real change.”
Obinna emphasized that his administration would declare a state of emergency in the education sector, invest in skill acquisition programs for youth, and establish cottage industries to stimulate local economic growth.
> “Our women and youth, especially at the grassroots, continue to face hardship accessing food, affordable healthcare, and accommodation. My vision for AMAC is one of inclusive growth and sustainable development,” he stated.
As an entertainer, entrepreneur, and youth advocate, Dr. Obinna believes his diverse background uniquely positions him to lead transformative change within the council.
> “I am driven by a deep conviction to uplift marginalized communities and to promote transparent, accountable governance. If elected, I will leverage my experience to make AMAC a model for effective local government in Nigeria.”
The SDP candidate also criticized the rising cost of living in the Federal Capital Territory, calling for urgent reforms to improve quality of life and ensure basic services are accessible to all residents.
> “My ultimate goal is to shape the trajectory of our community and leave a lasting legacy for future generations. I call on all AMAC citizens to support this vision, and together, we will build a better future,” Obinna concluded.
Dr. Obinna assured voters that, if given the mandate, his leadership would be marked by innovation and inclusivity.
