A Federal High Court in Katsina State has sentenced a woman, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, to death by hanging after finding her guilty of terrorism-related offences, including conspiracy to commit terrorism and aiding terrorist activities.
The court ruled that the prosecution successfully established its case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on evidence and witness testimonies presented during the trial.
According to court records, Mukhtar was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on September 16, 2023, at Jibia Motor Park in Katsina State. She was accused of attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to a suspected bandit leader operating in neighbouring Zamfara State.
Following a review of the evidence before it, the court convicted her on two counts under the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021, and imposed the death sentence.
The judgment marks another significant conviction in the government’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and arms trafficking in the North-West region.
Security authorities said the case underscores the role of logistics and supply networks in sustaining criminal and terrorist groups, noting that disrupting such channels remains critical to ongoing counterterrorism operations.
The conviction also adds to a growing list of terrorism-related cases secured by the DSS in recent months. In June, another suspect was sentenced to death over terrorism offences, while a female arms courier was handed a 20-year prison sentence earlier this year.
The latest ruling is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by security agencies and the judiciary to hold individuals accountable for supporting terrorist and bandit networks across the country.
