The Ondo State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps, has announced the foiling of five separate kidnapping attempts across various parts of the state within the past two weeks.
Addressing journalists in Akure, the Commander of the Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said all the victims were rescued without the payment of ransom, and several suspects were apprehended in connection with the crimes.
Adeleye revealed that the most recent abduction occurred on Monday when a community chief and a commercial motorcyclist were kidnapped near Akure. Acting swiftly on a distress call, Amotekun operatives—working in conjunction with local hunters—tracked the kidnappers and secured the victims’ release overnight.
“In another case in the Akoko area, kidnappers stormed farms, raped women and abducted others between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. along Ajegunle Road. Within 48 hours, we rescued the victims and arrested three suspects,” Adeleye disclosed.
The commander noted that Amotekun also recorded multiple arrests in the state’s Central senatorial district, where rescued victims were able to identify some of their captors.
“In total, we currently have 17 suspects in custody—eight for public disturbance, three for kidnapping, and six linked to armed robbery and rape,” he said.
Adeleye further reported that clashes between farmers and herders in the state had reduced significantly, a development he attributed to enhanced intelligence gathering and community cooperation.
He commended residents for their support and urged them to continue providing timely information to the corps. He also pledged greater collaboration with other security agencies to sustain peace and security across the state.
