The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, showing a marked improvement in performance and a sharp drop in examination malpractice.
Announcing the results at NECO headquarters in Minna on Wednesday, Registrar and Chief Executive Prof. Dantani Wushishi said a total of 1,367,210 candidates registered, with 1,358,339 sitting for the exams.
According to him, 818,492 candidates (60.26%) obtained five credits and above including Mathematics and English, while 1,144,496 (84.26%) secured five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.
“This performance is a milestone that reflects transparency, credibility, and NECO’s unwavering commitment to quality education,” Wushishi said.
The registrar disclosed that 1,622 candidates with special needs also sat for the exams, including those with hearing impairments, visual impairments, albinism, autism, and low vision.
Wushishi further revealed a 61.58% reduction in examination malpractice, with only 3,878 cases recorded in 2025 compared to 10,094 in 2024.
Despite this improvement, he confirmed that 38 schools across 13 states were involved in mass cheating and would face sanctions, while nine supervisors in Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun will be blacklisted for aiding malpractice.
Additionally, results from eight schools in Lamorde LGA, Adamawa State, were withheld following communal clashes that disrupted examinations.
Prof. Wushishi expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support in NECO’s ongoing reforms. He also appealed to higher institutions to wait for all examination bodies to release their results before finalising admissions.
Candidates can now access their results on www.neco.gov.ng using their registration numbers.
