Zamfara Police Confirm Killing of Five Officers, Neutralization of Bandits in Ambush Attack

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the death of five police officers following an ambush by armed bandits along the Gusau–Funtua Federal Highway.

In a statement released on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the incident occurred near Gidan Giye village in Tsafe Local Government Area during a routine patrol operation.

According to the statement, the patrol team, led by ASP John Dogara, was ambushed by a large group of heavily armed bandits. A fierce gun battle ensued, during which several of the attackers were neutralized, while others fled with suspected gunshot wounds.

“Despite the overwhelming number of the assailants, our operatives engaged them bravely, managing to neutralize several of the bandits,” Abubakar said.

Tragically, five police personnel lost their lives during the exchange.

The Police Command noted that normalcy has since been restored to the area. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to secure the highway and ensure the safety of commuters and residents.

“The Command assures members of the public that it remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” the statement added.
