Bandits kidnap 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi, kill Vice Principal

Police in Kebbi State have confirmed the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, located in the Danko district of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement released in Birnin Kebbi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, says the armed group stormed the school, shooting sporadically before overpowering security presence on the premises.

Despite efforts by police tactical units stationed at the school, the attackers reportedly scaled the fence, invaded the school and abducted the students from their hostel, late Sunday night.

Tragically, the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, was killed during the attack, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained an injury to his right hand.

Following the assault, additional police tactical teams, military personnel, and local vigilantes had been deployed to the area.

Security operatives are currently combing suspected bandit routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search-and-rescue mission aimed at recovering the abducted students and apprehending the perpetrators.

Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being intensified to ensure the safe return of the schoolgirls and restore security to the region.
